Saturday's Breakfast - Grassmilk Yogurt and a Few Other New Finds

This morning I decided to try a new yogurt for breakfast that I found last week at Sprouts Farmers Market. It's made by Organic Valley and is made using 100% grass-fed milk (no grains). It even has a thick layer of cream on top that you stir in! I sweetened it with a bit of stevia and tossed a few fresh blackberries on top. I found this yogurt to be a nice change from my usual Greek yogurt. It was smooth, creamy and noticeably less tangy and tart. I also snapped a few photos of a couple of my recent Costco finds. I picked up a 5-pound container of Himalayan Pink Sea Salt (I almost exclusively use pink Himalayan salt). I liked it because besides being a good price ($9.99), I like that it comes in a nice wide mouth jar as well. I also was excited to find that Costco now carries Muir Glen Organic Fire Roasted San Marzano Style Tomatoes. They come in a 4-pack of large 28-oz cans (particularly handy when making a big pot of chili). I snapped a few photos of this morning's blackberry topped yogurt below. Enjoy!

Hi GGC,

Thanks for posting about the yogurt. I hadn't seen it before. I'd love to get some, so I'll be sure to be on the lookout for it now! Here's an interesting FAQ on the Organic Valley web site with a brief explanation of the difference between "pasture-raised" and "100% grass fed." Lo and behold, they aren't synonymous.

The 5 links below that are also interesting (at least to me.) They are brief, as well, i.e. not too much reading time. :-) I especially liked their explanation about why all their products aren't 100% grass fed.

Out of curiosity, I went over to the Stoneyfield site to see if they've added a 100% grass fed line, and sure enough, there it was. So far Stoneyfield's regular full-fat organic yogurt is my all-time favorite (very mild flavored and creamy) but I'll be happy to try whichever brand of grass-fed yogurt I come across first. (I must confess that I sometimes spoon up the cream layer without stirring it in!)

There is a local dairy nearby that makes grass-fed yogurt (and other products) using milk from their own dairy herd. It's very good but Quite Tangy and I prefer as mild a flavor as possible so I can enjoy it without sweetener if I want to (which is most of the time.)

Hi CyberSis,

Thanks for the link. I read the other links on there as well. I thought it was very interesting!

Good to know that Stoneyfield is making a grass fed yogurt as well. I will look for that, too, to compare them. Hope you find some to try!

It's quite chilly here today and they say another "winter weather event" is brewing for the beginning of the week...maybe some snow, ice, etc.

Hi GGC.

Yeah ... we were at 2 degrees last night and didn't make it above 12 today. Even colder temps expected tomorrow + snow, etc. Monday & Tues. We must be in the same weather pattern. We're sure making up for our "mild" winter now!
