Wednesday's Random Post...Cute Baby Bantam Eggs

I recently found out that a fellow coworker of mine raises chickens for eggs. A few weeks ago I posted photos of some of the beautiful pastel colored eggs from his chickens. This week he brought me some cute "little eggs" to try. They are very small and come from a variety of chicken called a Bantam chicken. Since we were having leftover lasagna for dinner tonight, I only made one of these tiny little eggs this evening just so I could try it. To show you just how small these little eggs are, I photographed them beside normal sized cage free large eggs. I must say, these eggs are so cute that I might just have to make "mini biscuits" to serve the rest of them with when I make them! I simply fried one of the little eggs in some butter in my miniature 1-egg ceramic fry pan that is made to cook one regular size fried egg (it is SO cute). I can't tell you how cute it was...but I can show you. So, if you've never heard of a Bantam chicken before (and I hadn't)...check out these cute little farm fresh eggs -- they are almost too cute to eat. It was super fresh and rich tasting. I even shared it with my little pooch, Spike, who really loved it too! Check out the photos below. P.S. -- By special request, I made a loaf of Irish Soda Bread this evening and will sample it tomorrow after it has sat overnight. I don't know how it tastes yet, but it is absolutely beautiful! I will post it tomorrow. Now, check out these cute little Bantam eggs. If you want to read more about Bantam chickens...click here: Bantam Chickens. Enjoy!

There's only one suitable kind of butter to spread on Irish Soda Bread...I hope I have enough!

  1. Hi GGC,

I love your little eggs! And look at that beautiful deep golden yolk. The chickens obviously get good stuff in their diet.

I've just done a little search on bantams and was surprised at how many varieties there are. The one we're most familiar with (from seeing them at state and county fairs) turns out to be the Golden Sebright Bantam. Very cute little chickies that make very cute little eggs! http://www.mypetchicken.com/chicken-breeds/Sebright-Bantam-B99.aspx

Wow, does your Irish soda bread ever look wonderful! :-)

  2. Hi GG,

Food can be very interesting. Really. I especially love all your interesting "finds" at Costco. Those eggs are adorable. Well, here I am to say that my Doctor "released" me from "no dairy". Can have cheese and plain yogurt and cream--but no milk. So, what do you suppose one of the first things I did was? Why I made a Greek Spinach Feta Pie. ha ha And let me tell you, it was delicious. Don't believe I've ever enjoyed one as much as that one. Made it 4 or 5 days ago and it is gone! Going to try the bagel nuts but didn't have coconut flour. And it 's been snowing here a couple times of week. Thank you for your kind sweetness in adjusting that recipe for me. I cherish things like that. Think Spring!

  4. Hi CyberSis! Wow, how cute are those little Golden Sebright Bantams! They are actually beautiful -- love their color. It's funny, there are very few days where I don't learn something new. I'm going to have to find a name for my "egg man". You know there is that brand, "Eggland's Best"...maybe I need to name him "Eggman's Best"...LOL. Hope you are staying warm! It was damp, rainy, cold and windy -- it was 36 degrees when I came home from work. They say maybe 70 on Saturday -- crazy, crazy weather! :-)

  5. Hi Loretta -- I need to do another post about my finds at Costco -- I've actually have a few more to share...just haven't gotten around to posting them yet! So glad you got let out of "dairy jail"! ;-) Hope your snow slows down soon -- after all, we are headed toward spring soon. We turn our clocks forward this weekend so at least there will be daylight a little longer when I get home from work. :-)

  9. Aha, that must be from where they get the name of the Atlanta chicken restaurant - Bantam and Biddy...

  10. Hi Anonymous -- possibly so. Didn't even think about that name "Bantam" being an actual variety of chicken -- wonder if Biddy is a different variety of chicken? :-)

    1. Bantam means a miniature of a larger breed of chicken.
