Sad News...

Greetings friends...

Unfortunately I will be taking a brief absence. I lost my best friend Spike on Wednesday. He had turned 16 on Monday. He was my best friend, my baby, my shadow and my heart. I was his person and he mine.

We are devastated and lost without him. The silence is deafening. I pray that there really is a Rainbow Bridge so we can be together again one day. Run free my sweet boy.

I've put together a few of my favorite photos in a video collage below (a link to my Facebook post). I believe that even if you don't have Facebook you will be able to see the video if you choose.

  1. He looks just like the puppy/dog we used to have. He is so cute. Cute video!

    Sorry for our loss!

  2. I remember many times seeing your sweet sweet puppy on your blog! My sincere condolences. My kitty was my best friend too. I feel your pain.

  3. I understand the profound pain that comes with losing a 'child' and friend. Please accept my sincere and heartfelt sympathy.

  4. Dear Ayla,

I’m so very sorry about your heart-breaking loss. What a sweet and beautiful little dog he was. I so enjoyed the many photos of Spike that you posted on your blog and was always delighted whenever a new one would pop up. It even seems as though I knew him, too. I don’t have a FB account, but I was still able to view your lovely video tribute. He was greatly loved and he knew it for sure.

I know from experience how much this hurts. Your heart will heal in time, but there will be a piece of it that will always belong to Spike.

    Take care.

  5. Whenever I lost one of my precious dogs I found it very comforting to get another immediately. It really helps with the loss and pain.

  6. They are unconditionally our best friends. I am so sorry for your loss.

  7. Oh GG I am so sorry to hear about your loss of Spike. I remember the pix of him that you'd post on the blog. I watched the video you linked to on FB. What a great video to watch. My heart is with you and your family.

    Hugs, Peg

  8. So sorry to hear of the loss of your precious pup. We lost ours 3 years ago after 16 years with our family. I was totally unprepared for the amount of grief my husband and I felt. It still hurts three years later, but it is finally somewhat bearable. It is so amazing and wonderful how much of a part of our lives our furry friends can become, and this is most evident when we lose them. I hope the immense pain will soon subside for you and your family. My thoughts are with you. Hope that Spike and our Duffy are up in Heaven chasing balls and eating Bacon together!

  9. So sorry about your loss. This is the second blog post I read today about the loss of their beloved pet. Lovely tribute to him.

  10. I'm so sorry for your loss. From his pictures, he looks like a dog that had so much personality and gave such joy. I think that they never really leave us as long as we remember them. I've lost many animal friends in my life, but never regretted a moment, even when the pain of loss was the sharpest.

We will all keep you in our thoughts.

  11. I lost three dogs and I understand your pain. I never saw my husband cry until we lost our wonderful Lab Gate . The love for our pets is more intense when they are no longer with us , don't you think ?
I never had a pet as a child and had no idea how much I loved my fury friend until he died !
I remember sitting on the steps of our house , looking into the distance and talking to Gate , sharing my pain and worries with him. It has been so long since he is gone but my tears are flowing again just remembering him !
My thought are with you and I wish you well, Ayla.
    Be safe !

I can not even imagine losing a child !

  12. I’m so sorry.... I'm sure your family gave Spike such a lovely life and he gave you as much love as you gave him. Be well... in time you’ll remember him with joy and not sadness. Take care... my best to you and your family. Mary

  13. I am so very sorry. Spike was so cute. I agree with you wholeheartedly about the Rainbow Bridge. Pets have taught me much about unconditional love. Take care and come back when you are ready.

  14. I am so very sorry for your loss of Spike. I am absolutely positive that our pets who have passed on are waiting for us at Rainbow Bridge when we pass on. My dear sister recently passed on from cancer, and I know she was greeted by all our wonderful fur babies in Heaven. You will see Spike again one day. Hugs to you both.

  15. So sorry for the loss of your beloved fur baby Spike I know how hard that can be...💔
